Your First Iced Coffee Recipe
September 29th, 2009 by keen bean
On a warm day hot coffee and tea may not sound particularly inviting. However, if you are feeling lethargic and sluggish and want a pick me up, you might think about an iced coffee or tea. This way you get the boost from one of your favourite beverages without the sweats. We have included the following iced coffee recipe for you to start with, and recommend sharing it with your friends at your next gathering.
Make your coffee with double the amount of strength of your traditional hot version. Place chipped ice in a tall glass and pour the coffee over the ice. For a sweet treat, you can top with whipped cream. In addition, if you are serving to guests and want more of a “wow” factor, sprinkle the whipped cream with cinnamon sugar. This way neither you nor your friends will have to abstain from the joys of gourmet coffee just because the temperature outside is peaking.
The General Consumer is More Informed
September 28th, 2009 by keen bean
Other than the fact that it is convenient, why is it such a great thing to sell fair trade coffee online? Well, there are several reasons that could be named, but for our purpose today, we will spotlight the environmental benefits. If you were set on purchasing your coffee via the internet, but fair trade coffee was not available, then this advantage would be forsaken.
Often, the crops are grown by small farmers who are not capable of slashing down forests in order to plant their crops. Instead, they grow small mixed crops that are shade grown and organic. This approach is superior to common large farming practices for the environment. Luckily, the general consumer is now more concerned about where the products they buy and consume come from, and how they came to be. This in turn has gotten the attention of the coffee suppliers, and they have responded by taking to these responsible practices. Thus, offering fair trade coffee online is truly a fine thing.
Properly Stored Coffee Beans
September 27th, 2009 by keen bean
There are some frequently asked questions about how to store coffee beans. In response, many have come to different conclusions about the answers. Some people think they must keep the beans in special containers, or bags made specifically for housing the beans. Others think the key to a happy bean supply is to keep them in the refrigerator or freezer.
What you really need to know is that what you are protecting the goods from, in order to keep them out of harms way. Your intention is to guard them from destructive conditions such as heat, air, moisture and light. Thus, the optimum conditions for your beans are for them to be kept in airtight containers and held at room temperature. Once they have been opened up for the very first time, remember that they do have a shelf life. So, while you should savour them, there is no need to ration them, even if they are fairtrade coffee beans.

In Appreciation of Your Patronage
September 25th, 2009 by keen bean
I recently read an article that reviewed the benefits and detriments of acquiring a coffee gift for free from websites and retail stores. The author proposed that what needed to be considered was how long it would take you to find the offer for the free item and what information you would have to share to obtain the present. Now, this does seem like a sensible analysis, if you do in fact have to search for the article. And, of course in this day and age we must all be apprehensive of furnishing private information unnecessarily.
However, in the case of a company you already support granting you a complimentary item, with no requisite for personal information to be provided in exchanged, no one could deny that this is worthwhile. Though we understand that it might not be typical for an organization to give stuff away as a sign of appreciation to its customers, it is not unheard of altogether. So, bask in the joy of it, and enjoy the free coffee and other freebies that we are supplying in honour of your choice to purchase our products.
The Relationship with Coffee
September 24th, 2009 by keen bean
There is no doubt in anyone’s mind in this day and age that many people adore coffee. Sure, there are those that are connoisseurs of organic coffee, regional coffee, ground coffee and various other categories. Still, the common thread is a love of coffee, in all of its wonderful forms, and this admiration has existed for quite some time.
This relationship with coffee was exemplified in this statement by Benjamin Franklin: “Among the numerous luxuries of the table”…”coffee may be considered as one of the most valuable. It excites cheerfulness without intoxication; and the pleasing flow of spirits which it occasions…is never followed by sadness, languor or debility.” A testimonial that withstands the test of time, and still speaks volumes to us today regarding our relationship with coffee.

Quote of a Coffee Lover
September 22nd, 2009 by keen bean
In my ongoing search for interesting tidbits of information about coffee and tea, I encountered a quote that caught my attention. The quotation was attributed to a man whose name meant nothing to me. The passage said,” If you want to improve your understanding, drink coffee” and the author was a Sydney Smith.
Being the lover of gourmet coffee that I am, such a little diddy provides me with a moment of agreement. Initially, I just sank back into my chair and admired the statement. Then, I began to wonder if this individual were someone whose insight were known to the masses, or simply a person of one smooth line. My initial search unveiled that this fellow could have been a British admiral, an American zoologist, a New Zealand politician, or one of many others. Upon conclusion of further review, it appears he was an English essayist born in 1771. While these enquiries can often take me in the direction of a tangent, this one I found provoking. Personally, no matter what the occupation or epithet reveals, a great quote should always be applauded. So, bravo Mr. Smith, from me to you.
