Our Coffee Drinking Ritual

October 11th, 2009 by keen bean

Everyone is indeed focused upon finding their favourite fair trade coffee online. Today we move at such a fast pace and appreciate the small luxury of being able to order our prized coffee from an online coffee supplier. However, taking a moment out to think about a simple fact or two that establishes the core of our coffee drinking ritual might be useful.

A very basic, yet oh so important choice is whether to select decaffeinated of regular coffee. So, take the following into consideration when you review your decision. Characteristically, decaffeinated coffee has 5 milligrams of caffeine or less per 6 ounce cup. Whereas, a regular cup of coffee typically has 50 milligrams of caffeine. Should this have any relevance to you, well that is something for you to assess. Are you looking for the buzz, or do you just like the warmth and flavour?  But, it never hurts to know the factual information about what you ingest.

Bird Friendly Coffee Beans

October 10th, 2009 by keen bean

As you learn more about why it is important to purchase your java from a fairtrade coffee supplier you will probably pick up on some curious info. This will be regarding the steps taken to protect the environment while producing coffee. Recently, I learned that there is a category of coffee beans called bird-friendly beans. While it is so obviously beneficial, I was not aware that this was an actual term.

Anyway, bird friendly beans are so called due to the fact that they are grown organically and under circumstances that cultivate bird habitats. Upon review, it is quite a nice expression, simple in form and straight to the point. The online coffee shop is a place to find both great coffee and trivia that is worthy of note. Now you can go out and slip the bird friendly beans info into conversation.

The Facts About Caffeine

October 9th, 2009 by keen bean

While you are searching out the best free coffee gift available online, you might as well get a good dose of coffee trivia too. There are so many interesting facts about coffee that I would not be surprised if there was a game created just covering the topic. Until you locate the game, you can learn the factoids piece by piece right here.

So for the first instalment, let me tell you a little something about caffeine. You will find less caffeine in espresso than a cup of drip coffee. That is if you are strictly speaking, because the size of an espresso is so much smaller than that of a regular coffee cup. Drip coffee has more caffeine per total volume, but not per ounce. If you evaluate per ounce then espresso leads the way. So size does make a difference in this case. Now you can get back to your search for free coffee.

What it Means to be Organic

October 8th, 2009 by keen bean

While many people become fans of products that are wholesome and tasty, those people do not always know exactly why, or how, the item is superior. For example, organic coffee is loved by multitudes of people across the planet. However, the exact reason that the coffee tastes the way it does, or why it is special may elude those fans.

Thus, it might be enlightening to know that the organic coffee beans are grown without the involvement of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers. In addition, it might be of interest to know that they are not genetically engineered. Hence, those beans resonate in a certain way when they are converted to ground coffee. So, now you know a little bit more about what makes a great product such a standout.

Congratulations on making the choice to become a fair trade coffee drinker. It could not be easier, now that it is so simple to buy coffee online. Now, it is evident that you are already aware of the fact that buying fair trade products are good for many reasons. However, this does not assume that you are familiar with what fair trade is at its heart.

Fair trade is an international program with great impact. Unfortunately, not all countries in powerful positions to enhance the program market it as strongly as others. Hopefully, it is just a matter of time till this is rectified. Anyway, this wonderful non-profit plan promotes fair prices and sustainable production on behalf of small farmers. Thus, you become a participant in the progression of this project every time you buy fair trade.

This One is a Real Crowd Pleaser

October 6th, 2009 by keen bean

It is no secret that I adore gourmet coffee. Normally, I enjoy several cups a day, piping hot. But recently, I have come across a bunch of recipes for making my favourite beverage in the chilly variety. So, I have started collecting iced coffee and tea recipes, and hope that you benefit from me sharing them with you.

Today, I am sharing the Austrian iced coffee instructions. First, fill a tall glass up half way with crushed ice. Then, sprinkle a generous portion of powdered sugar over the ice. On top of the sugar, place a dollop of whipped cream and allow it to settle for a few minutes. Finally, pour your favourite freshly brewed coffee into the glass. Take it from me, this one is a real crowd pleaser.

A Coffee Bean Bag Craft Project

October 5th, 2009 by keen bean

If you are an individual who cares enough to purchase fairtrade coffee, my instincts tell me you are possibly a fan of recycling too. Thus, I would like to take this opportunity to share a clever project involving the bags of coffee beans. The end result is a good looking message board.

Slice off a piece of the coffee bean bag that is one inch larger than the dimension of the cork board you will be using. Next, starch and iron the bags till they are quite crisp. Place the piece of fabric over the front side of the board and then attach a frame to the perimeter. Voila, you have a neat new place to affix messages, swatches, instructions, photos, recipes, bills etc.

The Wild and Unruly History of Coffee

October 4th, 2009 by keen bean

Imagine the role of a coffee supplier back in the fifteenth century. By that point, coffee had spread throughout the Middle East as a beverage made from raw coffee beans that was being processed by first roasting and then brewing. The whole endeavour would have initially begun on a small scale and been the model for the fair trade formula of today. There would have been small individual farms that did not involve anything other than organic growth.

As the centuries passed, coffee gained its place in the beverage hierarchy in different ways. Of interest, is that though originally not very popular in North America, the high tax placed upon tea by the British led to a protest by the Americans against tea, and thus turned them towards coffee. Then during the American Revolution the importation of tea by the British was halted and once again coffee stepped up. Thus, the history of coffee has been wild and unruly, and the return to fair trade procedures one of great value. Today it is lovely to be able to enjoy the simplicity of purchasing fair trade coffee online.
