Just imagine, if times are difficult here, then they are distressed for those fairtrade coffee producers in developing countries. Remember what we feel here is magnified in the way of life of a farmer thousands of miles away. That is why supporting those growers of coffee beans is of the utmost importance.
Though it may be difficult to fathom, becoming actively involved in fairtrade does have a substantial impact upon the producers that are out of sight, but not out of mind. Additionally, it is a great business decision, because it just makes basic sense. Should you need more convincing, attend one of the annual Fairtrade Fortnights to get a firm grasp on what it is truly all about, and what role you can play.
The Evolution of the Online Coffee Shops
November 29th, 2009 by keen bean
There has been a question that recently has been front and centre. With the introduction of the online coffee shop, what will this mean for the brick and mortar establishments. Some wonder if the two will coincide together happily, each taking their own place in the modern individuals world.
Based on the initial research conducted, it appears that the love of coffee is strong enough at this time to support the success of both online and corner coffee shops. Of course, specifics such as whether an establishment is a fairtrade coffee supplier, has special deals, or even what additional tasty treats they offer will become increasingly important. So much competition should ultimately benefit the customer in many different ways.
Good Coffee and Celebrity Gossip Hit the Spot
November 28th, 2009 by keen bean
As is often the case, when I went online to purchase the usual from my coffee supplier, I got side-tracked. Instead of ordering my fair trade coffee online, I ended up reading yet another article about David and Victoria Beckham. This time it was all about the fact that they will remain in California because it is a good location for their kids.
Normally, what I come across are articles about her limited eating habits, or her clothing line. Other times it is all about some fragrance they are promoting, or his new hairstyle. I must admit that both of those topics do in fact peek my interest. Although, it was refreshing to see the focus placed upon the future well-being of the little boys. It definitely helps to balance out some of the wackiness that seems to exist in their world.
If Makeup Counters Provided Free Coffee with Makeovers
November 27th, 2009 by keen bean
During a recent lunch break I had to pick between going for a makeover, or relaxing at my favourite coffee joint. Then it dawned on me how the big make up lines, such as MAC, Bobbi Brown, and Yves Saint Laurent should provide their clients with free coffee while they have their makeup applied. It would certainly enhance the experience, and kill two birds with one stone. Not to mention it would surely make me feel more at ease while strangers passing by stare at me as the makeup artist works his, or her, magic on me.
Come to think of it, if Estee Lauder, Clinique or Prescriptives were to tempt me with that coffee gift, I might be swayed to try their brands. It would get me in their chair, and while sipping, make me stay longer than I normally would. Thus, possibly leading me to buy much more than I intended. So, if Laura Mercier had the scent of espresso coming from their counter, I would be drawn to it. This would already be a win for them, because I have never sampled, nor purchased any items in their line. Seems to me that I am really on to something here.
The Sure-Fire Method to Getting Your Way
November 26th, 2009 by keen bean
The amazing scent of my favourite ground coffee is one that I relish. So, whenever my husband wants to get his way on something he wakes up extra early and brews a pot of our organic coffee of choice. He lets the fragrance waft from the kitchen to our bedroom, and then waits a few minutes. Just long enough for me to begin to consider getting up for a cup. Then, he approaches through the bedroom door all bright eyed and bushy tailed with a glorious cuppa.
This has been a successful approach for him for years now, and as far as I can tell, it will continue to work well. Because the only thing better than having that great coffee scent fill your home, is enjoying a fabulous coffee someone else prepared specially for you. So, it looks like a sure-fire method to get his own way.

The Honest Enterprise that is Fairtrade Coffee
November 23rd, 2009 by keen bean
Coffee beans have become a significant part of the Fairtrade world, but a great deal occurred prior to their introduction into this arena. An American named Edna Ruth Byler is credited with being the foremother of the Fairtrade industry. She did this way back in 1940 when she went on a volunteer mission with her Mennonite community to Puerto Rico. During this expedition, she encountered impoverished women who had a talent for needlework crafts. She took some samples of this artwork and sold it at a Mennonite convention in Switzerland in a fairtrade manner.
From the action of this one woman, a great deal of extremely worthwhile commerce has evolved. Ultimately, in 1989 coffee began to be sold under the first Fairtrade certified label in the Netherlands. A flourishing market of Fairtrade coffee has grown from that year forth, and enables average individuals in developed countries to take part in a honest enterprise.
