Coffee is the Little Darling of Fairtrade

September 1st, 2009 by keen bean

At the heart of the fairtrade coffee history is the story of tremendous potential, growth, and success. Coffee and tea were the first of the fairtrade agricultural products. Soon after, they were joined by numerous others including fruits, sugar and spices. However, it did not take long before coffee had become the major growth generator backing fairtrade.

During the course of the last decade, fair trade sales have skyrocketed globally. Coffee remains a powerful piece of the finely tuned engine. When buying fairtrade coffee consumers are able to rest assured that the small coffee farmers, who painstakingly cultivate the coffee beans, had their products purchased under fair conditions. This is a win win situation for all involved, and it is definitely a system to be proud of indeed.
