Buy a Stranger a Cup of Coffee

November 13th, 2009 by keen bean

The sleepinginairports.net website has a comment left by a girl who says a security officer offered her a free coffee during her stay overnight in the airport. The reason I mention it is because it seems so rare that people buy a stranger a cup of coffee out of consideration or friendly gesture anymore. Though I personally have never slept in an airport, day or night, I would imagine the after hours block of time must be quite monotonous. Most shops and restaurants would be closed, and the cleaners probably loudly focused on their duties.

So to hear that an airport employee made the civilized gesture of the coffee gift, with no strings attached is refreshing. The offering was wonderful for many different reasons. In todays climate many people keep to themselves, avoiding human contact during the course of their day. But, some still reach out and make a gesture that reminds us that things do not always have to be so guarded.
